Cape Wind

Capacity:
130 wind turbines of 420 megawatts, each wind turbine is expected to produce up to 3.6 megawatts.
Noteworthy:

If built would be America’s first offshore wind farm.

Impact:

Cape Wind will provide three quarters of the Cape and Islands electricity needs. The projects turbines will transfer energy to cape cod mainland.

Future Plans:

The cape wind could reduce the dependence on foreign energy supplies. The energy provided could also possibly replace 113 million gallons of oil per year. Cape wind will reduce global warming, and greenhouse gas emissions by 734,000 tons per year.

History:

Cape wind has a 30 year history of engineering, developing, and constructing energy, conservation projects and environment friendly electric generation facilities.

General Notes:

http://www.eoearth.org/article/Nantucket_Sound,_Massachusetts~_Cape_Wind..., which if built would be America’s first offshore wind farm. The proposed wind park would consist of 130 offshore wind turbine generators arranged to maximize the park’s maximum potential electricity output of approximately 454 megawatts; Opponents claim that 130 turbines over 24 square miles will present significant obstacles to fishing, navigation and wildlife in all types of weather, and that tourism on Cape Cod, one of the top ten tourist destination in the country, will suffer.
