Abengoa Solar Builds World's Largest 300 Megawatt Solar Tower Plant in Seville, Spain

Using a field of heliostats that track the sun on 2 axes and reflect solar radiation toward a central tower, the Abergoa solar tower system is the largest solar tower array in the world producing over 300 Megawatts, powering more than 10,000 homes.

The tower houses a central receiver, where solar radiation is concentrated up to 600 times and transferred to a superheated fluid. The fluid's heat is used to generate steam and operate an electricity-generating turbine. Due to the magnification effects and super-heated techology associated with such solar towers, the energy production capacity and potential are much higher than many other solar technologies.

Their Description:

Power tower systems use a field of heliostats that track the sun on 2 axes and reflect solar radiation toward a central tower. The tower houses a central receiver, where solar radiation is concentrated up to 600 and transferred to a superheated fluid. The fluid's heat is used to generate steam and operate an electricity-generating turbine.
